Your story is the most valuable thing you have.

Own it, by writing it. This 2 hour, 30 minute workshop (virtual via Zoom) brings together writers and aspiring writers in a supportive creative space. Writing can get lonely and sometimes we can get frustrated or stuck. Hey, writing your story can be scary! But you don’t have to do this alone. By coming together and carving out some precious time to put pen to paper, we find fresh inspiration and community. The workshop is primarily focused on writing personal stories, however writers of all genres are warmly welcomed to participate.

WHO IS THIS WRITING WORKSHOP FOR?

  • Aspiring writers who don’t know where to start but feel they have a story to tell.

  • Writers who are stuck and need inspiration, community, and support.

  • Writers who are working on a piece for publication.

  • People who want to experiment with a new creative outlet or get out of their comfort zone.

Workshop Format

  • Virtual via Zoom

  • 2 hour, 30 minute workshop with a short break in the middle

  • 2 timed writing sessions of 30 minutes each

  • Write on a selection of writing prompts developed by me, or a topic of your choice

  • Write in a journal or on your computer

  • Share your writing with the group and receive positive feedback

  • Depending on the number of attendees, we may split up into breakout rooms for reading

No writing experience necessary

You don’t have to be a “good writer” in order to write. It is your story that matters. If you’re unsure of what to write, start with what you know - your life experience. Grammar, word choice, and other technicalities can be tweaked later.

this is A Judgement free zone

The workshop is a safe space to be creative and practice writing, sharing, and listening. We DO NOT critique each other’s work. We DO listen and respond to each other’s writing. We do this by briefly sharing about what parts of a writer’s story moved us or resonated with us after their reading. If you don’t want to share you’re writing, you don’t have to.

About The Facilitator

Emily Gleason

I started the Word Power Writer’s Workshop in April 2020 after the COVID pandemic hit. My intention was, and still is, to build a community and offer a safe creative space where writers and aspiring writers can come together and support one another. In the process, I’ve met some life-long friends.

I’ve found over the years as a writer that coming together with other writers helps me make time for the craft and gives me fresh inspiration and the little nudge I need to keep going.

Remember, you are worthy of giving yourself this time to write and create…even if it’s just for fun! I look forward to writing with you!
